Overlooking the Adour river, this is the home of the Darracq brothers, écarteurs, and of Paul Daverat (1855-1890), a famous Landais bullfighter who renovated the rules of the Landais race and helped give it its current appearance. Château du Laurède, or Château Castetmerle, was destroyed during the French Revolution. All that remains today is a motte and a parasol pine. The umbrella pine signified that the land was "franc-alleu", i.e. freehold. Numerous buildings are listed, including the 17th-century Peyne capcazalière house, Saint-Jacques church, the Adour island and oak groves, and the typical old arena.
