The town takes its name from a certain Visilus, who established his first villa here, at the confluence of the Brenon and Uvry rivers. In the early 14th century, the Counts of Vaudémont, attracted by the beauty of the area, made Vézelise the capital of the County of Vaudémont. They built a castle with four towers, which survived until the Thirty Years' War. Although no trace of the castle remains today, Vézelise is nevertheless well worth a visit. The Halles, the old wash-house, the Palais de Justice (built in 1561 by Charles III and now the Town Hall) and the Hôtel de Tavagny are all part of the town's heritage. We leave it to you to discover the town!
