Located kilometres and a few minutes from the Nancéienne agglomeration, Velaine-en-Hague extends into the forest of the same name. A constant demographic increase since 1789 (27 inhabitants), it had 1 625 in 2009. Formerly called Velaine-aux-Bois, Velaine in Heys, or Villena, the municipality is impartiality by Nancy and Toul. Its main resource is the recreational park of the Hague forest, with an area of more than 200 hectares, which allows city dwellers to find themselves in the heart of nature. It offers varied sports and leisure facilities and includes a children's playground, a Tipi Park leisure centre, the NFB staff training and training campus, and the training and training centre of the SA Nancy-Lorraine football club. It is open to the public for professional team training, even though the coach has limited access to it since the completion of the expansion of the centre Michel-Platini in the fall of 2008. The state-of-the-art forest in the Hague covers 6 500 hectares in addition to 1 500 hectares of communal forest encircling federal land. The massif of the Hague is traversed by the A 31 and the RD 400, which allows quick service. Access is located on exit 17 of this highway between Nancy and Toul. The origins of the word Hague probably stem from the Celtic word "hag" which means forest.
