Republic Square is full of surprises no matter what you think at first glance. The Limougeauds never cease to discover it. It was laid out in the 1960s, in a way that is still being discussed today, and the mayor at the time, Louis Longequeue, wanted to make it the symbol of a city turned towards modernity. While digging for its redevelopment, archaeologists discovered the remains of Limoges' first cinema, the casino and a layer underneath, the Abbey of Saint-Martial, whose crypt will soon be open to visitors again. The square has been redeveloped in recent months with tree planting, complete pedestrianisation, porcelain seats and lighting, a luminescent floor, etc...
