A Gallo-Roman mining conglomeration, a mining vicus during the High Middle Ages, Château-Chervix was a place where gold ore was extracted until the early 2000s. In the 7th century, a monetary workshop even minted gold coins there. In the 12th century, two communities developed, one around the Notre-Dame-de-Chervix priory and the other on the feudal mound. On the church square, which is unfortunately only shaded by one of its linden trees, a fountain (1897) runs permanently, fed by simple gravity.
