Labelled "Petite Cité de Caractère", the commune of Bénévent-l'Abbaye is a stage on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela from Crozant to Saint-Goussaud. Many pilgrims continue to stop in its church. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, it has the typical architecture of Limousin Romanesque art: very homogeneous and rich in symbolism. A thorough visit is necessary to discover its 44 sculpted capitals, its 145 sculpted modillions, the scallop shells, the companion signs, the recumbent of the founder, etc.
