Var (or «the garden of the Lower Limousin»), a small commune of 426 ha, was a fertile land that in the last century had more inhabitants than hectares (currently 283 inhabitants). His early queen-claude was famous. This sweet plum was born on the slope of the hill of Chantegrêle (hamlet of the novel "Vignerons de Chantegrêle" by writer Jean-Paul Malaval, mayor since 1995 of Var, village of his childhood, author among others of "A French family", a chronic chronicle of a Dynastie landowners dynasty at the beginning of the th century. By walking in the village, we are struck by the beauty of the country's stone and houses directly on the compact bedrock of the rock. The old houses, dating back to the th and th centuries, are built in coloured sandstone, with slate roofs or flat tiles. Their wine cellars and cellars used to be used to preserve wine production. At the place of the Church, you can see the wall wall, the mouluré porch and the Romanesque-style oculus (and also on the right with a mask with masque stoneware letters). Inside (the church is open and the switch is on the left side of the door), a socket in champlevé enamel of Limoges from the 2nd century and remarkable paintings of the th century representing the coronation of the Virgin Child and Christ in cross. Cross road was realized in 1954 by artist Geneviève Luis of Paris. The grand cross in front of the 1688 Date Cemetery.
