Located in the Haute-Corrèze, between the Dordogne gorges and the famous Millevaches plateau, Ussel develops at the crossroads of the Lyon-Bordeaux route and a route linking Aubusson to Mauriac, routes allowing trade in cereals and sheep breeding. Located on a natural replat, the city derives its name from the Celtic "Uxellos" meaning "high", "high". It bears the marks of great historical richness.
