The Viscounts of Turenne settled there a thousand years ago. From its fortress perched on a rocky spur, a mound of the Causse Martel, Turenne, visible from all the neighbouring hills, retains two haughty towers perched on the mound punctuated by two magnificent pine trees with their spread out ports. From private mansions to chapels and collegiate churches (the city conceals many wonders of the past), come and stroll quietly in this medieval jewel not yet invaded by tourists, one of the most beautiful villages in France. Its heritage is to be discovered absolutely and preferably on foot, even if its steep slope requires a little physical effort!
