Situated on a hilltop on the borders of the Limousin and Périgord regions, Saint-Robert has preserved its medieval character, making it one of the most beautiful villages in France. It was the setting for the TV series based on Claude Michelet's novels. All that remains of the Romanesque church is the choir and transept. The nave was destroyed during the Wars of Religion. Next to the octagonal bell tower, above the crossing, a polygonal lantern for the dead and a square defensive tower were added in the 16th century. Saint-Robert, with its medieval charm, old stately homes, narrow streets and remains of fortified gates, was once the seat of a Court of Appeals.
