Neuvic, an ancient fortified town, was franchised in 1300 by Elbes VII of Ventadour. Its church depended on the Cordeliers de Saint-Projet convent, located on the banks of the Dordogne. From this past, the city has kept the narrow streets and the fortified gate. Situated in an environment of immense pine and chestnut forests, on the right bank of the Triouzoune, Neuvic dominates the Dordogne gorges at an altitude of 630 m. Neuvic was sadly in the news in 2007, when a French Air Force Rafale crashed on its territory. The pilot, who died, would have suffered a spatial disorientation during this training mission.
