Like Collonges, the village is built in red sandstone. These are the same quarries, located on the northern slopes of the village, which have supplied these medieval cities with permian sandstone but in Meyssac the red sandstone draws on the colour of wine. It is a small, active town since the th century and attractive in the middle of a hilly landscape where enchères cultures (maize, tobacco, vine and especially walnut) are made possible by the climate. But it's its fairs that have made its reputation. The origin of these fairs dates back to the Middle Ages. At that time, they were the economic wealth of the city. They included country wine, hemp, flax, cereals and walnut oil. The surrounding hills were covered for a long time. Affected by phylloxera between 1880 and 1883, they disappeared almost completely and left truffle in the s. The manna gradually dried up, we turned to livestock. Today, the Foires fairs (only survivors with those in Brive and Objat) are specialised in the sale of calves reared under the mother who have the name «Veau calf». Three award-winning annual fairs are dedicated to them. Outside, a fair takes place on the 2nd and 4 th Fridays of each month and the market is held on Tuesday and Friday morning. Meyssac, among others, is made of Sothys beauty products.
