Meymac is the largest commune in the area, and has the highest peaks in the department. Nestled on the edge of the Millevaches plateau, the town offers the softness of the plain and the strength of the Limousin mountains. The cradle of most of the rivers in the region, its abundant and fertilizing springs supply the village and its extensions with pure and fresh water. The town has kept its medieval charm, with its slate roofs, its old granite stones, its carpenter's hall and its picturesque lanes around the Benedictine abbey, of great Romanesque purity, which also has splendid baroque organs.
