A small commune located near Libourne, Vayres is one of the oldest in the region. Traces of man dating back to the Paleolithic have indeed been discovered. The first vines of Vayres seem to date from Roman times. Following the fall of the Empire, a castle was built on the hill around the year 1000. Under English rule from the 12th to the 15th century, Vayres was the scene of many battles. Transformed into a pleasure house, the former castle then became the property of the Marquis de Vayres in 1795. Over the centuries, the wine-growing activity of the commune has continued and the Graves de Vayres appellation was created in 1931. For more information, do not hesitate to visit La Maison des Graves de Vayres. Located in the old town hall, it is open all year round. White and red wines are produced here on about 700 hectares of vines. Whether it is for its castle, its church, the port of Saint-Pardon or the Mascaret... there is always a good reason to discover or rediscover Vayres!
