A small tourist road leads to this very picturesque village, a medieval stronghold from the 11th century which deserves a prolonged stop. The access by the ridges reveals the impressive profile that stretches out on a rocky promontory. A true historical cocoon whose origins date back to the first crusades. The site was organized as a co-seigneury shortly after the crusade of 1095 in which Raymond de Curemonte took part. Witness of its forgotten influence, its architectural heritage is of great richness. With its three castles, its military constructions, its noble houses decorated with turrets, crests, mullioned windows and wooden balconies, its 12th century church, the originality of its site, straddling a rocky spur, which at the bend of these charming alleys plunges you into a dream past, this charming village is classified among the most beautiful in France. It is hard to believe that, in the 1960s, the village was tending towards ruin, so much so that a national weekly newspaper headlined "village for sale in Corrèze". It took the passion and perseverance of the "Friends of Curemonte", an association then chaired by Jean Lalé since its foundation, to work on the "Renaissance of Curemonte": to save and rehabilitate this precious built heritage. But Curemonte is not only a rich heritage, the fruit of a long and prestigious past, it is above all a site. We are still in the "green country" but the palm trees in the ground and the song of cicadas already announce the South. It is a fertile land, rich in wine, grains and walnut oil, close to a river and forests which, for its protection, naturally called for the establishment of a fortress.
