THE CORREZIAN CAUSSE
A pedestrian path with wooded valleys that mix the running waters of the Vézère and the Couze, low stone walls
The Causse corrézien is a geographical entity which groups together 10 communes around Brive. Here, the limestone rock outcrops which absorbs water in a network of underground arteries to make it reappear in resurgence. In its wooded valleys, the white waters of the Vézère and Couze rivers mingle. The remains of the castle of Couzages emerge from a vegetation made up of truffle oaks and junipers. It is also the country of a typical rural heritage with its low stone walls and its "cheyrou" huts (heaps of stones from the stones used to cultivate the land). Situated 13 km from Brive, the Causse lake extends over 100 ha, a very popular site for hikers. A 7 km footpath goes around it. On the spot, there is a nautical base and a tourist centre with various accommodations, from campsites to gîtes.
