This small village nestling at 832 metres above sea level is known for its elegant Romanesque church, which is accessible from Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans via the D 3. At the end of 4 km, it is achieved by a pleasant road in the peaceful, bocchetta environment. As a last village in the canton, sometimes it is ironic in the plain to designate a lost place. Coustouges has one of the most beautiful religious buildings of Roussillon. The parish church of L'Assomption, consecrated in 1142, retained its entire unity of origin. Its portal is remarkable in detail and finesse. Exceptional in Roussillon, it was not carved in marble, but in soft stone. Four columns with tenant capitals support a archivolte decorated with fruits, heads of monstrous men and animals. Inside, the original vaults of lateral, archaic chapels and interesting furniture. From Coustouges, like Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans, it is possible to attack the ascent of Mount Capell (1 194 metres), from which the view is remarkable in clear time on the Upper Vallespir and above all to the east over the whole of Ampourdan-Figueres and the Bay of Rosas.
