The town offers itself to our eyes, after a 10km journey from Banyuls-sur-Mer. Built on the sunny slopes of the last foothills of the Albères, at the bottom of a narrow bay, Cerbère, with its 1,500 inhabitants, has a very southern atmosphere. A seaside resort and a renowned diving centre, it is also home to an international railway station, the hub from which the major European express trains depart. An anecdote for film buffs, Jean-Pierre Mocky, the enfant terrible of French cinema, chose Cerbère to shoot scenes from his film L'Etalon. The cast included two masters of humour of the time: Bourvil and Francis Blanche.
