We are here about thirty kilometres south of Bordeaux and a few kilometres south-west of La Brède, in the heart of the pine forest which burnt down completely in 1949. Its name comes from the Gascon word sahuc which means elder tree. Saucats was occupied very early, archaeologists have indeed discovered a prehistoric station. The road to Santiago de Compostela by the via Turonensis crosses the city. You can discover the parish church of Saint-Pierre and the memorial of the Richemont farm. 35 m high, it is a monument to the martyrs of the Resistance of the South-West who died during the Second World War
