Sainte-Terre is an unconventional name for a town, don't you think? And yet... It is said that on the return from the first crusade, land was brought back from Palestine and spread there, at the very top of the village. A church was built there in the 11th century and named Sancta-Terra. This is how the village later adopted this name. Between the vineyards and the Dordogne, Sainte-Terre is ideal for beautiful walks. The river has enabled the municipality to establish itself as the capital of the lamprey. Fishing is here, an ancestral tradition that still exists today. As early as the 15th century, there was a fishery in Lavagnac. Shad, eel or elver tickle fishermen, but it is the lamprey that is queen here! It is the subject of several events in Sainte-Terre and a brotherhood of the lamprey even takes care of making the strange animal known. To better discover this fish, the Lamprey Garden welcomes you for free.
