Perched on a rocky outcrop, the ruins of the fortified castle of Moissac suggest a sophisticated defense system, made necessary by the successive assaults of the Camisards and the King's Dragons. In the 13th century, the hamlet belonged to the house of Anduze and was rebuilt in the 17th century. Even today, shortly before nightfall, if you are quiet and patient, you may be able to see beavers near the bridge! Moissac-Vallée-Française, located in the Cevennes National Park, has about 250 inhabitants and is surrounded by chestnut trees, although pine trees have gained territory over the years.
