The village owes its name to Santa Cruz, the instrument of Christ's Passion. Perched on a hillside between Cadillac-sur-Garonne and Saint-Macaire, Sainte-Croix-du-Mont has plenty to offer: views over the Garonne valley, its church and the 14th-century Château de Tastes with its crenellated walls, which have been extensively altered over the years. And most spectacular of all, its shell limestone cliffs with fossilized oysters dating from the Tertiary era (several tens of millions of years ago). The cliff stretches for a hundred meters and shelters caves in which cellars and a chapel have been built. The Fête Vigneronne takes place in June.
