The village is close to the col des Trois-Soeurs, where the Truyère river has its source. The Fenestre rock, which stands at 1,486 m, is a real observatory from which the whole region can be seen. The pass takes its name from a legend. Three sisters, natives of La Panouse, each worked as servants in the country's barracks. In love with the same shepherd, whom they watched pass by in spring and autumn on the Margeride drape, they set off towards the pass on a cold and snowy day, hoping to find him there to save him from the peril that awaited him. They were found the next day, tied by their arms and legs, joined in death.
