La Bastide-Puylaurent was born of the merger of two parishes in the 19th century. Puylaurent, once an important village, is now an almost deserted hamlet. The only reminder of its past is the beautiful Romanesque church, which stands in the middle of the plateau at an altitude of over 1,000 m. Its abstract stained glass windows were created by Vincent Bioulès, one of the driving forces behind the supports-surfaces movement. La Bastide grew thanks to the arrival of the Paris-Nîmes line, which stops here at its highest point, transforming the hamlet into a small high-altitude resort between forests and pastures. The GR (7, 70 and 72) trails offer a wealth of hiking opportunities.
