La Bastide-Puylaurent was born from the regrouping of two parishes in the 19th century. Puylaurent, once an important village, is today an almost deserted hamlet. The only witness to its past is the beautiful Romanesque church that rises in the middle of the plateau at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters and whose abstract stained glass windows were created by Vincent Bioulès, one of the leaders of the support-surface movement. La Bastide has developed thanks to the arrival of the Paris-Nîmes line, which stops here at its highest point, transforming the hamlet into a small high altitude resort between forests and pastures. There are many possibilities for hiking thanks to the GR (7, 70 and 72).
