Cut between the Tarn and Jonte gorges, the Méjean is a vast expanse at an average altitude of around 1,000 m, a paradise for sheep. The human presence is concentrated in small hamlets nestled at the edge of some cultivable depressions. It is therefore difficult to imagine that the place called Hures-la-Parade is the chief town of one of the largest communes in the area. As you drive through it, you feel like you are in another world, where rural traditions still have value. Under its surface, there are real underground treasures, mostly known but unexploited or internationally famous like the Aven Armand.
