Saint-Vivien is equidistant from the Estuary and the Ocean, halfway between Lesparre and the end of the land, and on the border between vineyards and cereals. Numerous archaeological discoveries attest to a very ancient settlement and, in the 6th century, a Christian chapel was erected here in homage to Saint Vivien. Nothing remains of it today, but the church's very recent bell tower - built in 1957 - should not obscure its beautiful 12th-century apse in the saintongeais style. After a visit to the market, renowned throughout the Médoc, the little inner harbour of Saint-Vivien is not to be missed, with its multicoloured boats and its guinguettes.
