Travel Guide Nizas

Nizas is a millenary land occupied since Prehistory, the existence of Nizas is attested in 884, the town was then called "Nezate". It possesses an astonishing and rare landscape, between vineyards and basaltic limestone plateau. The result of an ancient lava flow sculpted by erosion, it culminates at an altitude of 94 m and is home to an extremely diverse flora and fauna. From its heights, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of the village. Fortified in the 12th century, it was first built around the castrum tower, built in the district of La Villette, the oldest sector of Nizas. However, from the 15th century onwards, the town underwent important developments and, in the face of these changes, a new castle was built in the following century. It will belong to the Carrion de Nizas family until the Revolution. These evolutions, the church Sainte-Félicité-Sainte-Perpétue and several wine houses are to be discovered during your walks.
