"WALK" is a series of drawings of walkers of different sizes in oil pastel.

In 2018 I have to move back to NY, my hometown. I have to hastily move my childhood apartment inhabited 50 years by my hoarder and hospitalized mother. A heartbreaking stay, I am holding on thanks to the support of my friends, walking and photography that make the present bearable. This sharp contrast between pain on one side and love and beauty on the other has created an awareness of the intensity of life in its raw state.
Every day I walk through the streets, accumulating images as if to bring back a bit of my childhood city. I quickly realize that these shots are empty of people, a paradox, while in such a moment of uprooting, what counts are the people. From then on, I started to photograph passers-by in movement.
Back in France, these photos inspire drawings and become a starting point to experiment with color. Oil pastel is an obvious choice: the malleable and fluid material allows me a spontaneity that translates this vital energy.
Seen in profile, these individuals are both alone and together. They resemble each other through the recurrent and ordinary jeans, sneakers, laptops and bags they wear. All are united in the same blue and black rendering, and in the white breath that surrounds them. Their singularity is marked by an almost loving attention to detail.
I try to capture an impression of movement and presence by the speed of execution and the drawing left voluntarily in a state of sketch. A drawing that is at the same time dynamic, fragile and violent, sensitive witness of the impermanence of things.

Draughtswoman and photographer born in 1974 in New York. Today I live and work in Montpellier and am part of the workshop En traits libres.
