Nestled on the right bank of Orb, Maraussan is a village dedicated to its heritage and vineyards grown by the Romans. It is the latter who have given the name to the commune. Indeed, a veteran of the army of Caesar, a certain Marucius built his residence over 2 000 years ago, Villa Maruciana, to cultivate his land, especially the vineyard. Many remains testify to a rich past, especially the village church, castle and chapel chapel. With a strong wine tradition, Maraussan is not proud of its cooperative, which was the first sale in France, created on 23 December 1901 by a hundred Wine Growers to train the Libres's free winemakers.
