A land of transition, Lodève and the Hérault valley cover a wide variety of landscapes. A land of garrigue, this valley is dominated by the Séranne and the Pic Saint-Loup, which faces the mountains and offers a magnificent panorama. Rivers have carved out abysses and stone lace. In places, the earth is so red you'd think it was bathed in blood. The contrast with the blue waters of Lac du Salagou and the green monochrome of the abundant vegetation is magnificent. Lodève, which has been awarded the "Ville et Pays d'Art et d'Histoire" label and is also a former textile town, can be discovered through its ancient Gothic Saint-Fulcran cathedral, its episcopal palace, which today houses the Hôtel de Ville, its numerous town houses, the Apothicary's of the Hôpital Saint-Jean, and its famous Manufacture Nationale de la Savonnerie (be careful, we're talking about textiles here, especially carpets!). Built between two rivers, the Lergue and Soulondre, the town boasts 7 bridges from various periods: Middle Ages, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries... The Musée de Lodève, housed in the Hôtel de Fleury, displays collections of archaeology, painting and sculpture. You'll have plenty of time to stroll through the narrow streets of the town center, where you can indulge your senses with the region's culinary specialties: Larzac lamb, Vis trout, Pélardon, Lucques olives, AOC Châtaigne des Cévennes, all accompanied by a good glass of Terrasses du Larzac.
