A medieval village built around a Benedictine abbey and its fortified abbey, Saint-Pierre-aux-Links, Joncels offers the harsh and charm of a mountain country. Crossed by narrow alleys surmounted by original porticos, the village retains its fortified aspect with its th century houses. The th century foundation of a fortified Benedictine monastery, whose rose sandstone cloister dates back to the th century, gave him some renown. Nationalised and sold to the inhabitants of the Revolution, the cloister became the place of everyday life. Thus its central garden has become the place of the village, while the column walk serves as porches for the surrounding houses. An unusual and little known place not to be missed. Cultivating the image of the past, Joncels still remains a stop on the path of Santiago de Compostela.
