(The fauna of the garrigue) The fauna of the garrigue is varied and abundant, but it is also adapted to the particularities of the Mediterranean climate. One can cite some particular species such as the "Couleuvre de Montpellier", a large snake more than two metres long; the small grey lizard ("angrole" for the people of the country) which heats up on the stones at the smallest ray of sunshine; the "cargolade", the "little grey", the Mediterranean snail shows its horns as soon as a shower wakes up life in the garrigues, leaving the places where it protects itself from drought: heterogeneity of frieze, bottom of ditches, wall holes… The garrigue area has been decorated in a dense vegetation and has seen a proliferation of wild boar for some years. Chased in the whole region, he hides in the day and inas often finds only traces of his night activity: soil returned, roots to bare land, trampled demolished.
