This small Mediterranean village is located a few kilometres from Montpellier and 5 minutes from its airport. An exceptional situation that gives it a certain advantage. But this is not the only argument in favour of Candillargues. The city has a rich and long history, dating back to Prehistory and the first people. These traces of occupation testify to the importance of the marshy area bordering the Etang de l'Or, which was most probably used as a fishing and hunting reference point. After the departure of these men, the site was abandoned for several hundred years. It was not until the arrival of the Roman Empire that this place was exploited again. Moreover, the toponym "Candillargues" is inherited from the name of a Gallo-Roman domain, built on the Latin name Candidius or Candillius. Villa Candianicas was the domain of Candidius. Candianicis, first name of Candillargues, would have given Candihargues early 1500. Today, some vestiges of this period remain in and around Candillargues. Some of them visit each other, an additional argument for anyone wondering whether a holiday in the region can be culturally enriching. We tell you: Candillargues can boast of having all the advantages of a major tourist resort without the inconveniences! Indeed, the village is not very crowded during the season despite its proximity to the beaches of the coast and the hills of the Cévennes, the accommodation is quiet, the many activities and restaurants honour the gastronomic richness of the region. Leaving it will be difficult!
