In the past this territory was covered by a huge forest, the Albières forest, where wolves proliferated! This is probably why it was called berloup, from the Latin ver luporum (springtime of the wolves). Nestled on the last foothills of the Cévennes, in the narrowest strip of the Mediterranean slope, Berlou lives to the rhythm of the harvest and its traditions. It is said here that the first traces of the vineyard date back to Charlemagne and that the cultivation of vines has continued throughout history. Today, on the slopes of the hillsides, the plots of vines reclaimed from the Mediterranean scrub flourish in a mild and warm climate, sheltered from the winds, taking advantage of the exceptional properties of the schist soil. That's why a great wine is named after this village. Berlou is also an ideal starting point for hikes and walks, some of which lead to the orientation tables located on a promontory above the D177.
