Near Alès, Saint-Christol-Lès-Alès is a commune born in the 12th century, between the Languedoc plain and the Cevennes mountains, with the foundation of the Hospitallers of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Crossed by the Gardon and Alzon rivers, its territory is wine-growing (hillside wines), and it has a cooperative cellar. It has 7,000 inhabitants.
