Nestled on a belvedere overlooking the Aude plain, Saint-Marcel has been occupied since Gallo-Roman times. Mentioned for the first time in 1105, the village has always been a crossing point between the Aude hinterland, Narbonne and the Grande Bleue. Built in circulade, it has preserved some vestiges of its past. We recommend that you visit the Portanel district, where you will find the remains of medieval walls and a gateway leading to the old Saint-Marcel church.
