The fort of Castillon, built in Saint-Christoly to defend the mouth of the Gironde against the invasions of the Normans in the 9th century, was demolished on the orders of Louis XIII. The port of Saint-Christoly is almost a miniature port and is worth a visit for its beautiful view of the Gironde and its old boats at the quay. It is a place of meeting and conviviality. It was the chief town of the ancient seigniory of Castillon before belonging to the house Pardaillan and then to the Dukes of Antin. The port of Saint-Christoly is worth a visit for its beautiful view of the Gironde and its old boats with docks. The old name of the village is Saint-Christoly-de-Castillon.
