The origins of Homps go back to the Gallo-Roman period and its name comes from "Ulmos" which means elm trees. The village housed the headquarters of a commandery of the Hospitaller order in the 12th century and was destroyed during the Crusade against the Albigensians and during the Wars of Religion. With the construction of the Canal du Midi in the 17th century, Homps prospered. Its main attraction is the marina where one can make pleasant strolls and the lake of Jouarres which borders the village. You can also see the remains of the castle of the Knights of Malta and a Romanesque chapel from the 11th century, first dedicated to Saint-Etienne and then to Saint-Michel.
