The grau de Maury, dominated by the Château de Quéribus, the last Cathar citadel and French sentinel at the gateway to Spain until 1659, is the gateway to this small village on the plain, which has made its presence felt over the centuries for a number of reasons. Firstly, the 14th-century church of Saint-Julien-et-Sainte-Basilisse is home to a rare depiction of the pregnant Virgin Mary, which has led to many misadventures. Then there are the remains of a castrum, still visible today above the 17th-century Moulin d'Omer, built on a sloping rock above three former threshing floors.
