LA SEMAINE DES MARBRES

La Semaine des Marbres (the marble week), which takes place over the first ten days of June, is a major celebration of sculpture and marble in Caunes-Minervois, managed by the association Les Marbrières de Caunes, bringing together exhibitions, concerts, shows, events and free workshops. A sculpture symposium will take place around four sculptors on monoliths, intended to form a collective work to decorate the Allée des Carrières, a veritable sculptural path. You will also be able to wander through the village of arts and marbles, discovering the trades inherent to this stone: cutters, engravers, mosaic artists, jewelers and decorative trades. During the weekend "marble and terroir", the activities will be linked to the ecomuseum and a market of artistic exhibitors will be deployed: booksellers, food trades, products from Caunes-Minervois and surrounding villages. On Sunday, a dinner-concert will be held, while on Whit Monday, you can take part in the reception of the monolithic sculptures, for installation in their final location, with music and in good spirits.

You can visit: the quarries through "Marble Safaris" (accompanied and commented visit on a loop of 2 km) reservation required at the tourist office at 04 68 76 34 74, visits on Wednesdays and Sundays all year round.

Or the Ecomusée Marbre et Terroir (Marble and Terroir Ecomuseum) which hosts an exhibition dedicated to the marble heritage in a former industrial building on Avenue du Stade.
