This Versailles hall, built in 1686, is a historic site that bears witness to the Oath of the Jeu de Paume on June 20, 1789.

The Jeu de Paume, the ancestor of our tennis and squash, enjoyed a golden age in the 15th and 16th centuries. At the beginning of the 17th century, there were almost 250 gaming halls in Paris. The Salle de Versailles was built for the Court in 1686. A historic site, it was the scene of the famous Jeu de Paume Oath of June 20, 1789 (for which it is mainly known). On that day, the deputies of the Tiers-Etat proclaimed themselves the National Assembly, and vowed "never to separate until the Constitution is established." The Revolution was underway...

on côtoie ici l'histoire avec un grand H. C'est au Jeu de Paume ou tout a commencé en juin 1789. AMBIANCE MAGIQUE,ENVOUTANTE, INOUBLIABLE. C'est gratuit, central et ouvert l'après midi seulement.

Pas mal pour le prix (entrée gratuite). Surtout un souvenir historique, début de la révolution!

Un bâtiment bien souvent oublié lors des visites à Versailles mais néanmoins chargé d'histoire. L'entrée étant gratuite, ça vaut le coup d'y aller et de s'imprégner un peu de l'atmosphère qui a pu y régner peu avant la révolution française.
