In the south-east of the département, Senlisse is part of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Nature Park. The village takes its name from the Latin Sine delicias, attributed to the wine "without delights" destined for the abbey of Saint-Denis - to which the village was attached in the 9th century. The territory then became part of the Duchy of Chevreuse in the 16th century, before being owned by the Dukes of Luynes until the end of the 19th century. The latter notably provided the commune with a town hall and school with accommodation for the teacher. The commune's subsoil was extensively exploited: sandstone was used to pave the streets of the capital, and millstone to build the sewers.
