A small Carolingian village, Maisons belonged to the monks of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. From 1050 to 1420, the town was under the protectorate of the de Poissy family. Construction of the château began in 1634 under René de Longueil. Sold at the end of the 18th century to the Comte d'Artois, it was finally sold to banker Jacques Laffitte in 1818. The urbanization of the park, the installation of the railway station on the Paris-Rouen axis and the development of horse racing stimulated the town, which eventually took its name. Maisons-Laffitte, Cité du Cheval, boasts the largest racecourse in the Paris region, as well as a 130-hectare training center.
