The birth of La Celle-Saint-Cloud probably dates back to the year 550, when Clodoald, grandson of Clovis, built a monastery here to live in exile. The territory fell victim to Norman invasions in 846, and was divided into two parts - the fiefdom of Louveciennes and that of Le Chesnay. In the 17th century, the estate was sold to the Sandras family, who built a château. A hunting ground under Louis XV, who built the Pavillon du Butard, the estate was given a second château by the du Val and de Paris families. Today, the commune stands out for its château, now owned by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
