The origins of Élancourt go back to the 8th century, when Pepin the Short ceded this territory to the abbey of Saint-Denis. In the 9th century, the town was called Aglini Curtis, which means "enclosed farm". Around 1180, the area was home to a commandery of the Knights Templar and the Order of Malta, which was transformed into a farm in the 15th century before being rehabilitated only a few years ago. Élancourt stands out thanks to its important role in the field of cultural activities. Its old hamlets that appeared in the 16th century - the Petite Villedieu, the Launay, the Grange and the Coudrays - have now become districts of the town
