Choisel nestles at the bottom of a wooded valley comprising 180 hectares of forest, where the Herbouvilliers and Ecosse-Bouton streams quietly flow, a natural reminder of its historic heritage. From 1204 to 1304, the village was owned and held in fief by the Castellan de Chevreuse, a line of lords to whom he gave the names Soiseio, Choisello and Soisé. The origin of the name Choisel is thus assured and proven. However, it should be noted that the same name, this time a common one, originally designated a water mill! This small village of around 500 inhabitants boasts a beautiful 17th-century château, the Château de Breteuil.
