Located in a meander on the left bank of the Seine, Bonnières-sur-Seine is bounded on the east by the Guyon valley. The town's name comes from the Old French bonier, used to describe 1 hectare. In addition to its river port and industrial boom, Bonnières is also known for having been the site of the American Singer factory from 1934 to 1989. In 1950, a Neolithic tomb was discovered in the commune, attesting to its prehistoric occupation. The ruins of the Tour carrée du Mesnil-Regnard to the south-west, and the three arches of the Château de Beuron are also noteworthy.
