Located on the plain of Versailles, Bailly borders the Marly forest and is also linked to the gardens of the Château de Versailles to the southeast. In the Middle Ages, the area was divided into two fiefs: Bailly-le-Haut, on the edge of the Cruye forest, and Bailly-le-Bas, on the site of today's village. From 1950 onwards, the commune expanded with the construction of housing estates such as Harmony-Ouest, Clos Fleuri, La Châtaigneraie... The town's heritage includes the Château Louis XII, now a rehabilitation center for paralytic children, and the 13th- and 17th-century Saint-Sulpice church.
