Situated in the heart of the paths of Santiago de Compostela and on the border of Aquitaine and Saintonge, this small town has an abbey built between 1145 and 1150, which was home to the Premonstratensian order; monks whose mission was to clear and settle unsubdued populations, exploiting the surrounding land. Pleine-Selve experienced a period of prosperity under Eleanor of Aquitaine. The remains can be visited and are located in the very heart of the Rossignol family's vineyard.
